.Who is O.J. Laughlin?

Oliver “Ollie” James Laughlin started working full time for his Uncle, Charles T. Herbert & Son Plumbing Company upon graduation of grade school.  He started by riding his bicycle from his Mother’s house off Kingshighway and Maffitt to his Uncle’s shop in the Tower Grove area.

After serving in the Army during World War II, Mr. Laughlin began helping with the daily operations due to his Uncle’s health.  After his Uncle’s death, Mr. Laughlin decided to start his own plumbing business in 1951.

He was an active member of the American Legion, and in 1971, was awarded a Gold Membership Card as a Lifetime Member.  He also was a member of the St. Louis Post Commanders Club, being Commander of Legion Post 353 and 355.

Mr. Laughlin was a hard working man, who along with his wife Catherine raised 13 children.  He instilled with all his children good work ethics and stressed good business practices.  Although he has been deceased since 1984, we are sure he would be proud that his beliefs are now being handed down to a third and fourth generation.
